Hush Puppies

April


Saucer Magnolia aka: Tulip Tree, this is right out from Devins bedroom window
1 c. yellow cornmeal
1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 t. baking powder
1 egg, beaten
3/4 c. milk
1/2 c. onion, chopped
dash garlic powder
oil for deep frying

 In a medium bowl, sift together cornmeal, flour, baking powder and seasonings. Mix well. Add the egg, milk, and onion, stir until just moistened. Heat oil. Drop batter by yablespoons into oil. Fry 2 1/2 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serves 5.

Some kids are like ketchup bottles. You have to slap their bottoms a few times to get them moving.

Baked Lemon Pudding

3 T. shortening
1 1/8 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. milk
3 T. flour
3 eggs. separated
juice of 2 lemons

Cream shortening and sugar. Add yolks and lemon juice, mix well. Pour into a greased casserole dish. Set casserole dish in an oven proof pan full of hot water. Bake 45 minutes at 350*  Make a meringue if desired with the egg whites.

My eldest daughter Jody, loves this because it's pie without the shell.

A babysitter is a teenager you hire to let you stay up and play.

Cookie Crust

April 30, 1989


1 c. vanilla wafer cookies, crushed
3 T, sugar
1 t. orange zest
1/4 c. soft oleo

Combine and press into an 8" pie tin. Bake 7 minutes at 350*. Cool before filling.

An alarm clock is a device used for waking people up who don't have children.
